Denmark Day 4: Copenhagen
6 09 2010Have now been back in Malta for a day…so it is high time I blog about the last part of our Denmark Trip. At the end of Day 3 we made our way to Copenhagen. We arrived late at night, and made our way to our Bed and Breakfast. Michael and Ann helped us settle in (mainly helped with communication with the host) and they left to Michael’s friend with whom they were staying. The B&B was located in a very central location, such that we walked to most places…so no complaints there. The room was very big and comforatble…although it could use with a decor update. But who am I to complain!
Thursday dawned our first day in Copenhagen. We were excited to see the sights. However the weather was not that good…hmpfff…We had a grumpy Michael and made our way to the National Museum of Denmark. We visited the prehistoric display and then made our way to the Guided tour in English of ‘Who are the Danes – from absolute monarchs to the modern welfare state’. This museum is really worth visiting…it is fully explained (also in English wippiee), and the tour really gives a good alternative way to see the museum. After the tour we planned to keep going around the place..to see the other exhibits. However as soon as we entered the foyer we saw that the sun was shining. Michael suddenly brightened up and we decided to leave the museum to enjoy Copenhagen in the sun. We went to eat a Danish hotdog and then went on a Canal tour.
At the end of the trip, I think we all agreed that this Canal Tour is the most worth it thing to do on a nice day in Copenhagen. It costs around 4Euros, and you have an hour of going through the Copenhagen Canals with a tour guide. We were all very sceptical about doing this (except MIchael who had gone on before), but it was really worth it. Especially with the sun shining.
After the canal tour we walked over to Christiania, which is a sort of large commune. There are some seedy characters around…but they do not bother you and it is a truly beautiful place.
We then caught the metro back to Fredericksberg where we went to the park. Michael then left to meet up with his friend at whose place Ann and Michael were staying to cook dinner, since we were all invited over that night. Ann, mum and myself just sat on the grass and rested for about 1.5hours (the time flew by) and then made our way to Mikkel’s place. We watched some TV and surfed the net whilst they cooked. Dinner was Mouthwatering…first plate was a beef carpaccio with pine nuts, parmesan cheese and a bed of rocket. This was followed by Spicy chicken with Garam Masala Rice mmmmmmmmmm.
After dinner…and LOTS of chatting, we then went on to Mikkel’s favourite part I am sure. He had been telling us about it all night…SING STAR! We competed against each other. Some were surprisingly good. But I can honestly say that the worst one that came out was Michael and my rendition of Virtual insanity by Jamiroquai. AAAAAAAAAAA! But it was pretty good fun. Mum and myself then made our way to our B&B whilst Michael, Ann and Mikkel kept on singing the night away I have been told.

Denmark Day 3
1 09 2010So…this is what we did today (and what we will be doing later). You might ask why am I blogging in the middle of the day when I am on holiday. Well tonight we are leaving Michael’s parents’ house in Tøftlund and going to Copenhagen for the remainder of the trip till Saturday. So we should be packing, relaxing etc.
However this morning we did do a number of activities…after breakfast we left to go to Tørning Mølle. This is a mill surrounded by beautiful scenery and a park. We stopped there and crossed the park to the other side (around 45min walk or so, along the canal). Michael’s dad took the car to the other end and met us there with a picnic…weeeeeeee so we did not have to go walk back.
After the picnic lunch we proceeded to go to Haderslev where we visited the Cathedra, walked around the place next to the lake, and then went to the Archaeology Museum. The inner part was not so nice for me, because most of the details were in Danish (some had Engglish but it was not really organised as to what had English and what did not…it seems like a hodge podge of things). On the outside they had a couple of typical Danish houses, where you could go inside and see them from the insider and see how people lived. This was really nice and cool 🙂
After Haderslev we came back to Tøftlund, had a snack and will soon be eating an early dinner and go to Copenhagen. Ann and Michael are checking what we could do in Copenhagen etc etc, and at around 7pm we leave by train to Copenhagen.
At Copenhagen Ann and Michael will be staying with friends, whilst me and mum will be at a Bed and Breakfast. Not sure if I have internet access…so the next update is probably on Sunday!

Why oh Why!
29 08 2010Why is it, that now that I am off work, and have a holiday planned next week, my immune system decided it needs a break. Yesterday I woke up feeling poorly…my throat was sore, and had a low grade fever all day :(…please note that I just went to the doctor two weeks ago, and finished the course of antibiotics he had given me last Thursday :@. Well, I called my doctor, and he gave me some more antibiotics (hope they will help). Today I woke up still with the slight fever. Took my antibiotics, a panadol, and tried to relax a bit. Now a few mins ago, my bowel movements decided they wanted to participate in this malady. AAAAAAAAAA….Tomorrow morning at 6:30am, I have a flight to Denmark. Me and mum are going to visit my sister’s boyfriend’s parents, and also have some time in Copenhagen. I did not want to be sick…but with the low grade fever and sore throat I think I could manage. However, this new development is making me worried…I have a 3hours 15mins flight, and I want no surprises….Let us see how it goes 😀
Wish me luck!

Denmark here I come!
2 08 2010Or here I leave actually :D…My mum had bought tickets to go to Denmark to meet my sister and her boyfriend at his parent’s house followed by some time in Copenhagen. I did not buy the tickets before hand since I did not know the details of my PhD..
However I had bought the ticket Malta-Billund tickets some time ago since there were ‘relatively’ cheap Ryanair tickets some time after my mum bought them. However since I am coming back through Copenhagen, I was hoping to wait. My mum bought tickets with Norwegian Air. However by the time I went to buy them, they had skyrocketed in price…surprisingly the August tickets are MUCH CHEAPER than the September tickets…something I cannot understand. I was hoping that once August starts, the September tickets go down again…but to no avail. Therefore today I bought my ticket to come to Malta…however I will be flying AirMalta through Munich…it will take longer…but it is around 100Eur cheaper…so who cares…and I only have a 1.5hour difference between 1 flight and the next…so not much waiting 😀 WEEEEE…in addition it will not be a low cost airline…so I could more easily bring the laptop I should hopefully soon buy!
DENMARK!!…here I come!
